HAULYP Members & Supporters,
The City of Philadelphia is known for its arts and culture, cuisines, but most importantly its history. This historical city was the first capitol of the United States and the location for the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776 and the Constitution in 1787.
In a city marked with history, the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals (HAULYP) made history at the 2013 National Urban League Conference. HAULYP was recognized for the third time for its work and service in the Urban League movement within the Southern Region, with the 2013 “Sylvia K. Brooks” Southern Region Chapter of Excellence. In addition our Immediate Past President, Elijah Williams was elected to the position of National Treasurer for the National Urban League Young Professionals (NULYP), giving Houston its fourth HAULYP President to be elected to the NULYP Board. Lastly because of your continued support, HAULYP was awarded with a four-thousand ($4,000) dollar grant from Anheuser Busch through the NULYP Be A Better Bud Contest. This grant will allow us to continue to provide programs and events that support the mission of the Houston Area Urban League.
HAULYP members and long time supporters I commend you for your unwavering support of the Urban League movement! Our successes should be recognized, but understand that there is more work to do. More than ever our youth need us, more than ever our voices should be heard on voter rights, and more than ever with a recovering economy the Houston Area Urban League needs our support. I ask that you continue to be an ambassador of HAULYP, so that we can take this movement to new heights! As HAULYP returns back to its regular schedule, I leave you with this quote, “true heroism is remarkably sober, very undramatic. It is not the urge to surpass all others at whatever cost, but the urge to serve others at whatever cost.”
Yours In The Movement,
Samson Babalola | 2013 President
